About

News and commentary on kids and education.

I am but one, of many, who rises every morning with the intention to make a difference and have a positive affect on at least one child.

I am “mom” to a spoiled and sometimes whiny, 5 year old tabby.  I’ve had him since he was a kitten and he has more frequent flier miles than some people I know.

Whenever I manage to find free time, I indulge in reading and writing.

Thanks for visiting my little piece of the blogosphere.  I hope you find your way back!

I know someone two people from Merced. One, a retired nurse, now live in Maryland and her son lives in Long Beach. I’ve never been to Merced though. What is it like? I’ve only been in California for a little over 3 years. I’m actually from Florida.

    Hello, School Teacher.

I happened upon your blog early this morning as I was surfing the ‘Net. I just finished reading your post in tribute to MLK, and your personal experiences with racism. As a Black teacher, I can relate very personally to your story. BTW: I lived in Augusta, GA for three years, and during that time, by brother and I visited the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change. We visited Dr. King’s childhood home. We did not get to see iinside Ebenezer,as it was closed for renovation. The property had just been purchased by the National Park System. However, I, along with a friend, attended an MLK celebration in Atlanta. At that time, I attended a program at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church. Later that evening, I attended a gala where I met several members of the King family, including Coretta, Dexter, Yolanda and Bernice. I

Anyway, I am glad to have discovered your blog.:)

I just came across your blog and think it’s great. I’m going to put a link to it from my blog because we share some of the same concerns. :)

It’s nice to meet you – I’d love to know more about you: how long you’ve been teaching and where you teach. I promise not to turn you in to your employer for blasphemy.

I just wanted to put in that I’ve only started reading your posts in the last few weeks, and you are truly an inspiration! I recognize my own professional struggles in yours many times, and you bring a deeper level of awareness and social concern to what you do. I find I get caught up in the academic “strategies” and such and have been failing to reflect on the deeper implications for our society. Thank you for keeping me, well, conscious!

  8. Blue State Teacher Says:

I hope you have a positive Effect (not affect) on your kids too. Look forward to reading the rest of your blog.

Thanks for coming over to check out my blog! Though I know I do not talk about it much on there, I am a teacher too. I have taught Special Needs Preschool for 10+ years, and am currently taking some time off to stay at home with our baby to be. You have some interesting topics on education here, and I will be checking back in to see how you’re doing with your future plans. Best wishes~
